Taking a Temperature
A lubricated thermometer can be placed
in the rectum. The thermometer should be left in place for 2-3 minutes.
A normal rectal temperature for
an adult cow is 99-103°
F. A calf’s normal temperature
is 101-103°
F.
With practice, a cow with a fever can be identified during a rectal palpation. This method can be utilized while artificially inseminating, etc.
