Product Description and Indications for Use: These products are feed
additives that are used to improve feed efficiency and rate of gain. They are
also anti-coccidia agents effective against coccidia (Eimeria bovis and
E. zuernii) infections.
Dosage and Administration:
Lasalocid (type A medicated article):
- For improved feed efficiency and rate of gain in cattle - Feed
continuously at a rate of not less than 25 g but not more than 30 g of
lasalocid per ton of total ration (90% dry matter). Provide no less than 250
mg but no more than 360 mg per head per day.
- For coccidiosis - Feed continuously at a rate of 30 g of lasalocid per ton
of total ration (90% dry matter). Provide an intake of 1 mg of lasalocid per
2.2 lbs of body weight per day in cattle up to 800 lbs (do not exceed 360 mg
per head per day).
Monensin (type A medicated article):
- For improved feed efficiency in feed lot animals - Complete feeds should
contain 5-30 g of monensin per ton of (90% dry matter) feed.
- For improved feed efficiency in pastured animals - During the first 5
days, feed no more than 100 mg/head/day. Recommended daily feeding is not less
than 50 mg but not more than 200 mg/head/day of monensin in not less than 1 lb
of feed.
- For coccidiosis - Provide not less than 100 mg but not greater than 360
mg/head/day of monensin. The amount fed varies with the animal’s weight.
Precautions and Side Effects: Do not use Bovatec in lactating animals.
Rumensin is now approved for use in lactating animals. These products can
be fatal if fed to horses. They can also be fatal to ruminants if mixing errors
have occurred.
Meat Withholding: None, when used according to label directions in the
proper species. Extra label use may alter the withholding.
