Product Description:
This drug is a steroid (glucocorticoid) anti-inflammatory, stronger than prednisone.Indications for Use: Use when there is severe inflammation or pain.
Not approved for use in sheep and goats. Refer to extra-label drug use.
Dosage and Administration: Give 0.1-1.0 mg/kg (0.045-0.45 mg/lb) of body weight, intramuscularly (IM) or intravenously (IV) once a day. This dose can vary greatly between different animals and the conditions being treated. To cause an abortion, give 15-25 mg as a one time dose.
Duration of Treatment: Treat as long as symptoms persist, but do not exceed 4-5 days. (See precautions.)
Packaging: This product comes in a 100 mL bottle. Each mL contains 2 mg of dexamethasone.
Precautions and Side Effects: Because all steroids cause suppression of the immune system, they should not be used in most bacterial or viral infections. They should be reserved for only the most severe bacterial infections where the life of the animal is in jeopardy. Steroids can also cause intestinal, stomach, and kidney damage. If bloody feces or urine is noted, discontinue use and consider antiulcer treatment. Do not use in conjunction with other steroids, aspirin, or Banamine. This drug can cause abortions.
Storage: Refrigeration is not required.
