Antirobe® (Clindamycin)


Product Description: This antibiotic, containing clindamycin hydrochloride, is effective against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus spp., Clostridium perfringens, Bacteroides fragilis, Mycoplasma, and Actinomyces bacterial infections.

Indications for Use: Antirobe is for use in bacterial infections of the mouth, gums, bones (osteomyelitis), skin, and tissues, including wounds and abscesses.

Dosage and Administration: A dose of 2.5 mg per lb. of body weight, twice a day, is recommended. This means that 1 mL per 10 lbs. of body weight of the liquid, or one 25 mg capsule per 10 lbs. of body weight should be given. These doses are for dental, skin, and tissue infections. For bone infections (osteomyelitis), a stronger dose of 5 mg per lb. of body weight should be given twice daily. This antibiotic should not be given for longer than a total of 28 days.

Precautions and Side Effects: Allergic reactions are a possibility. See page E200 for additional information on allergic reactions. Vomiting and diarrhea are sometimes noted. If this occurs, contact a veterinarian.

Packaging: This product comes as a 20 mL liquid bottle or in a capsule form. The liquid contains 25 mg per mL and the capsules come in 25, 75, and 150 mg strengths.

Storage: Both products should be stored at a controlled room temperature.
