Clavamox®
(Amoxicillin trihydrate/clavulanate potassium)


Product Description: This antibiotic, containing amoxicillin trihydrate and clavulanate potassium, is effective against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus spp., Pasteurella multocida, Pasteurella spp., and E. coli bacterial infections.

Indications for Use: Clavamox is for use in bacterial infections of the skin and tissues, including wounds and abscesses. This product can also be used in some bladder infections.

Dosage and Administration: A dose of 6.25 mg per pound of body weight, administered twice a day is recommended. This means that a 10 lb. cat should receive 1 mL of the liquid or 1 (62.5 mg) tablet twice a day. This dose can be given for 5-7 days or until 2 days after all signs are gone. Treatment for urinary tract infections may take as long as 2-3 weeks to clear up. Total treatment is not to exceed 30 days total.

Precautions and Side Effects: Allergic reactions are a possibility. See page E200 for additional information in allergic reactions. Occasionally, some cats experience mild diarrhea and/or vomiting. If this occurs, contact a veterinarian.

Packaging: This product comes in a powder and a tablet form. The powder must be reconstituted with water prior to use. When reconstituted with the recommended 14 mL of water, each mL of liquid antibiotic contains 50 mg amoxicillin trihydrate and 12.5 mg clavulanate potassium. The tablets come in a 62.5, 125, 250, and 375 mg strengths.

Storage and Shelf Life: The liquid must be refrigerated once reconstituted and should be discarded 14 days after reconstitution. The tablets should be stored at a controlled room temperature.
