Zantac® (Ranitidine)


Product Description: This is an H2 inhibitor that decreases acid production in the stomach.

Indications for Use: This product, formulated to help prevent ulcers, should be used in foals or horses that are under stressful circumstances.

Dosage and Administration: When administering the oral products, give one 300 mg tablet or 20 mL of the oral liquid per 100 lbs. The injectable product should be given at 12 mL per 100 lbs. These doses should be given three times a day. The injectable products are often very expensive to use in large animals.

Packaging: Zantac comes in a tablet, liquid, and an injectable form. The tablets come in a 75, 150 or 300 mg per tablet strength. The syrup comes in a 15 mg/mL concentration, and the injectable product comes in 25 mg/mL.

Storage and Shelf Life: Store at room temperature and avoid moisture.

Meat Withholding: Do not use in horses intended for food.
